At Product Guru we're proud to support a thriving community of independent, challenger brands. Brands across all FMCG, gift, home and specialty categories list products on our online platform and we love to share the stories behind them.
So, we talked to Maxim who told us all about his business Stroodles.
Tell us a bit about your company, its background and your products?
Stroodles was founded in December 2018 in London. Stroodles are pasta straws saying ‘pasta la vista' to soggy paper and plastic straws. They are 100% biodegradable (wheat + water), 1h+ strong, flavourless and edible.
But Stroodles is not just a straw company. Stroodles is a movement. We are here to inspire your customers on how fun and easy it is to make small sustainable changes ‘one Stroodle at a time!’
Our mission is to offer uncompromising solutions to the everyday consumer and business. We’re a part of a larger global effort to change the way we consume and use products, one Stroodle Straw at a time.
“We know the plastic problem is out of hand, yet the awareness is at an all time high. What we need now is practical, convenient, solutions that replace the plastic in our lives without disrupting our lifestyles. It’s this simple mission, to change the ordinary, that’s birthed Stroodles.” (Mr. Stroodles).
How many people work for the business and who do you sell to?
We have 4 people and freelancers currently working for Stroodles. We sell to all the on-trade players, i.e bars/restaurants, catering companies, etc., as well as directly to consumers through our website and other 3rd party e-commerce channels, and any type of POS outlets, such as supermarkets, garden centres, delis, independent retail shops, gift shops, gas stations, etc.
Is there a specific product you are particularly proud of and why?
We are proud of Stroodles (our only product), as we are able to inspire the world and people about making small sustainable changes without compromises. We are thereby able to do so much more than sell a product- we are leaving a lasting impact and helping to save the planet from plastic trash.
What do you most enjoy about running your business?
It’s a very rewarding business and it's amazing to see how much impact we do on a day-to-day basis, especially on Instagram when people tag. And those amazing and positive reactions are what keep us going every day.
And it’s that dynamic nature and the opportunities that open up daily which is just fun and get us out of bed, as it is just a curiosity of what fun things the next day brings.
What are your ambitions for your company?
We want to become the go-to straw alternative and inspire millions of people to make small sustainable changes.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Mr. Stroodles just loves going for long walks and to just relax with friends, and obviously a good portion of Netflix to just shut-off.
What do you think of the Product Guru platform? What encouraged you to use us?
I love it and it’s such a great and efficient platform to spread the word about the Stroodles Movement. We heard about it first in context of the The Pantry Live event and wish we would have known about it earlier. What an easy way to reach so many retail buyers.
